Name: Stacey Gloude

Occupation: Student

Stacey has two boys and currently lives in BC Housing in Mission, but her life and home was in Maple Ridge. She was forced to move when an injury prevented her from continuing to work, and her cost of living immediately became too great to remain in her home. She is now back at school and has been working long term as a “casual employee”. She struggles to get by on very little income and feels buried under the weight of the cost of living.

We support raising the minimum wage, reducing tuition fees, and providing more social housing. Most people living in poverty have a job, and many more are two pay cheques away from being in poverty. The increased minimum wage of $10.25 an hour still does not lift workers above the poverty line.

“I can dream and dream and dream, but the reality is just that…  I don’t think I’ll ever get there. I’ll just keep dreaming. Hopes–maybe we’ll be better off. I’m almost 40, I don’t want to have to continue for the rest of my life like this.”
